These diseases are caused by people coming in contact with contaminated water in pools, spas, lakes and rivers. The person may
have inadvertently swallowed contaminated water. They may cause a variety of symptoms and problems, as are gastrointestinal
problems, skin infections, ear infections, respiritory problems and eye problems.
The diseases caused are crypto, e.coli, giardia, norovirus and shigella.
What is it? It is a germ found in the feces of people and animals.
What does it cause? Diarrea
How does it get into acuatic facilities? Coming in contact with something contaminated with crypto.
How to avoid?
* Do not swim if you have diarrhea
* Do not swallow the water
* Practice good hygiene
Qhat is it? It is a bacteria. There are various types of e.coli
What does it cause? It can cause diarrhea, urinary tract infections, respiratory diseases, and
pneumonia.
How does it get into acuatic facilities? A person coming in contact with something contaminated
with e.coli.
How to avoid?
* Do not swim if you have diarrhea
* Do not swallow the water
* Practice good hygiene
What is it? It is a germ found in feces.
What does it cause? It may cause diarrhea.
How does it get into acuatic facilities? Coming in contact with something contaminated with
giardia, it may be found in the water, or on surfaces contaminated with feces of people infected.
How to avoid?
* Do not swim if you have diarrhea
* Do not swallow the water
* Practice good hygiene
What is it? It is a contagious virus.
What does it cause? Causes gastrointeritis. Norovirus may also cause diarrhea, urinary infections,
fever, nausea and headaches.
How does it get into acuatic facilities? Coming in contact with vomit or the feces of someone
contaminated with norovirus.
How to avoid?
* Have areas cleaned, especially with chlorine
* Do not swim if you have diarrhea
* Do not swallow the water
* Practice good hygiene
What is it? It is a una contagious bacteria.
What does it cause? It can cause fever, stomach problemas and diarrhea.
How does it get into acuatic facilities? Coming in contact with the feces of someone contaminated with
shigella.
How to avoid?
* Do not swim if you have diarrhea
* Do not swallow the water
* Practice good hygiene
* Shigella is more common in summer
Swimming with diarrhea can spread mutliple types of germs in the pool waters and make people sick and your pool contaminated!

To avoid the bacteria and diseases thriving in the pool water, remember:
- Do not allow anyone with an open wound or sick to enter your pool
- Do not allow babies in pools unless they are wearing waterproof diapers
- Keep pets out of the water
- Keep your pool properly serviced and maintained
- Do not swallow water
- Avoid swimming in pools that seem to have questionable cleanliness and maintenance standards
